West Ham are said to have joined the race to sign a Liverpool flop this Summer.

It was always apparent that West Ham’s lack of depth would come back to bite them, but that was never more apparent than in their 2-0 loss to Bayer Leverkusen. While the German outfit were making substitutions that changed the game, with both goalscorers coming off the bench, the Hammers were left twiddling their thumbs with only Ben Johnson and Nayef Aguerd coming on.

In order to build upon the squad’s strong foundations, West Ham will need a mixture of experience and promising youngsters. As usual, they have been linked with a ridiculous amount of players already with the latest being Juventus’ Arthur Melo.

The Brazilian midfielder is currently on loan to Fiorentina and has been enjoying a decent season. His whole career has been plagued with injuries. Unfortunately this has led to him never reaching the heights he should have.

According to TuttoJuve, West Ham are set to battle Arsenal for his signature – a move that would cost around the €20 million mark. Fiorentina do have an option to sign him permanently, but they are not expected to activate this.

Unfortunately, a player with his injury record is not the ideal candidate for West Ham and with his wages reportedly being near £90,000 it does not really make much sense for them. That money could be put towards a younger and more well rounded midfielder, not someone who has already failed to impress in the Premier League.
