Bayer Leverkusen winning the Bundesliga title last weekend could have a massive impact on West Ham’s comeback hopes.

While everyone was aware that West Ham would be in for a tough night against Bayer Leverkusen, not many realised just how good they were. They passed with purpose and rather than carving out chances, they waited for the perfect opportunity to strike.

Overall, the Hammers coped fairly well with their relentless attacks, but two late goals means that they’ve got it all to do in the second leg. For better or for worse though, Leverkusen’s most recent match could have a massive impact on Thursday’s game.

Xabi Alonso’s side eased their way to a 5-0 thrashing over Werder Bremen and, as a result, they finally won the Bundesliga title for the first time in their history and are currently 16 points clear of Bayern Munich and Stuttgart.

One possible reaction to this is that they could over celebrate, get over confident and not be at there best on Thursday – something West Ham will be praying for.

However, what seems more likely is that they will be brimming with confidence and will now have their full attention on doing the unbeaten treble.

With our Irons putting in an uninspiring display against Fulham at the weekend, it is nearly unimaginable that they will turn round the 2 goal deficit. That said, they have a habit of destroying expectations and winning against the odds, hopefully we witness another one of those moments.
