Manchester United could be about to make a shock move for West Ham star.
Throughout the season, West Ham fans have slowly accepted that Lucas Paqueta is unlikely to be at their club next term. He came close to moving to Manchester City last Summer, but an investigation into a potential breach of betting regulations put a stop to this.
Although it is still ongoing, the investigation is set to come to an end soon and City are set to make another approach for the midfielder.
Unfortunately for them, they may not get his signature without a challenge as they would have hoped. The Brazilian’s skill set has also attracted the attention of their biggest rivals Manchester United, Fichajes reports. United are looking for a versatile midfielder to play alongside Bruno Fernandes and they clearly think Paqueta is the man for the job.
While this may seem like a good thing on paper for West Ham, it actually has little impact on them. This is because Paqueta has a release clause that comes into effect this Summer for around the £85 million mark. It always seemed unlikely that they would sell for less than this and it will prevent any potential bidding war from the Manchester sides.
The most important thing for the Hammers is spending the money wisely. A massive window is needed and, hopefully, the profit they make for him is put straight into the recruitment team’s funds.
