West Ham are set to make a summer move for a Championship defender, should he not be successful in the push for promotion this season.

GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed that West Ham are interested in a potential summer move for Ipswich Town full back Leif Davis if Kieran McKenna’s side are unsuccessful in their promotion push, as has been reported previously by ExWHUEmployee.

Ten years ago West Ham signed Aaron Cresswell from Ipswich for a fee of just £2 million. Cresswell has gone on to make 344 appearances for West Ham and is second to club legend Mark Noble in the club’s list of all time Premier League appearances.

Cresswell will be 35 at the end of this year and is out of contract in the summer. Emerson has been an excellent signing for the Hammers since joining from Chelsea in the summer of 2022, with the Italian international firmly establishing himself as the club’s first choice left back. However, with Cresswell perhaps on his way out of the club, West Ham will be in need of some fresh competition in the left back position ready for the start of next season.

The Hammers are thought to be keen to open dialogue with Ipswich Town in order to discuss the 24 year old’s availability in the summer transfer window. The fullback has certainly caught West Ham’s eye with his excellent performances in an Ipswich shirt this season having racked up an incredible 20 assists and also scoring twice.

Sources have told GIVEMESPORT that West Ham have kept an eye on Davis and his performances throughout the season and that the club believe his playing style would suit the direction the club are headed in as they aim to achieve a fourth successive year of European football.

Hammers technical director Tim Steidten could have a difficult job securing a potential deal for Davis however, as whether or not Kieran McKenna’s side are a Premier League team next season, the club will be determined to keep a hold of their most important players. It has also been suggested that Ipswich would put a price tag on Davis of around £20 million in order to deter clubs interested in a move for the fullback.
