Karen Brady makes a shocking claim that will pain West Ham fans to read.

Despite a few failures, overall West Ham’s recruitment over the past couple of seasons has been brilliant. Lucas Paqueta, Mohammed Kudus and Edson Alvarez have all been sensational additions to the squad.

However, there is one player that they will be absolutely devastated they didn’t end up signing; Cole Palmer. In the end, the midfielder signed for Chelsea for £42.5 million but he was heavily linked with a move to the London Stadium before that.

As it stands, he is the joint top Premier League goalscorer with 20 goals and he has assisted a further 9. For the most part, Chelsea have been horrific this campaign, making it all the more impressive that he’s putting out those numbers.

Obviously, he would have been an excellent signing for anyone, but just how close West Ham came to signing him will break fans hearts. “From all the newsreels I’ve seen, Cole is as cool a dude in front of goal as Jimmy Greaves himself,” Karen Brady told The Sun.

“Which is probably why David Moyes tried very hard to sign him. We even had a deal agreed with City until Chelsea swooped.”

Signing him could have been the difference in our Irons achieving another season of European football. Unfortunately Chelsea are reaping the benefits of West Ham not getting the deal completed sooner and that could be why they end up finishing above their London rivals.
