Tottenham have been urged not to sign Ben Johnson by their former goalkeeper Paul Robinson.
For such fierce rivals, a lot of players have gone between Tottenham and West Ham over the years. Jermaine Defoe, Scott Parker and Paul Allen are just a few to play in both North and East London over the years.
However, it’s not everyday a player leaves his boyhood club for one of their biggest rivals for the money. Unfortunately, that’s a real possibility for Ben Johnson. According to reports, Spurs are considering whether to sign him on a free transfer this Summer.
Unsurprisingly, this news hasn’t been met with enthusiasm from Tottenham fans and their former goalkeeper Paul Robinson has been particularly opposed to the idea. “I’m not so sure he takes Spurs to the next level where they want to get to, and a deal between Spurs and West Ham it may not go down too well with the fans,” he told Tottenham News. “He’d have to hit the ground running to win a lot of the supporters over.”
“I think he’d be a good addition to the squad, put it that way, but I don’t think he’d have an immediate impact on the starting XI.”
In all honesty, it is hard to disagree with him. He wouldn’t be someone that gets in their starting XI over Pedro Porro and Udogie. If he did choose to go there, then you’d have to question how big of an issue his playing time really is and whether it’s purely about the money. As a self proclaimed West Ham fan, he must know that choosing Tottenham for the money over West Ham is the cardinal sin.
