West Ham are set to battle Premier League rivals for the signature of a £70 million winger according to reports.

With an already thin squad almost certainly getting thinner this Summer, it is obvious West Ham need to have a massive window. A number of areas need adding too, including the left-wing, an area which they already tried and failed to fill in January.

While the main targets were Osman and Jota, there was one other player they were reportedly interested in; Pedro Goncalves.

The Portuguese attacker has been absolutely sensational for Sporting Lisbon, managing 116 goal involvements in 173 games for the club. His versatility in particular makes him so dangerous.

TeamTALK reports that the 25-year-old is once again on the Hammers’ radar and that it will take a whopping £69 million to acquire his services. Unfortunately, they’re not the only ones who admire Goncalves with Aston Villa also showing interest.

Given that they are almost certainly going to have some sort of European football next season, that could give them the edge in the race for his signature. The Hammers best chance is probably if they somehow manage to bring in Lisbon’s manager Amorim – but the club’s recent talks with him don’t seem to have gone too well.

Obviously signing someone of his calibre would be a real statement to whoever the manager is after this season ends that they will receive significant backing from the owners.
