West Ham are attempting to “derail” European powerhouse’s deal for midfielder, but a shocking new revelation could be bad news.
While the midfield was not a standout issue for David Moyes last season, Julen Lopetegui may not feel the same. His style of play is completely different that of his predecessor and this means that the men in the middle may not be to his taste.
As a result, the Hammers have been looking at some potential additions in midfield with a creative player seemingly being favoured. Recently, the majority of midfield links have been with Aleix Garcia. The 26-year-old had an excellent season and was pivotal to Girona finishing 3rd in La Liga, getting themselves Champions League football.
Unfortunately for West Ham, they face massive competition for the Spaniard’s signature from Bayer Leverkusen. The German double-winners are one of the most attractive clubs in the world at the minute and convincing anyone to move to the London Stadium over them would be difficult.
However, to make matters worse, journalist Jacob Steinberg has revealed that Leverkusen have actually agreed a deal with the player. “They have attempted to derail Bayer Leverkusen’s move for the Girona midfielder Aleix García. García is thought to have an agreement with Leverkusen but West Ham are not out of the running.”
Obviously anything can happen, but this really isn’t promising news. While our Irons are supposedly willing to offer more money, the lure of playing Champions League football under Xabi Alonso may be too much for them to fight against.
