Club owner begs his star player to stay amidst West Ham interest but states that he will not stand in his way if he does wish to leave.

West Ham have a few areas they desperately need to work on this Summer however, the most prominent ones are the defence as well as their lack of homegrown players.

Thankfully, the club are keen to kill two birds with one stone with a few English centre-backs being considered. While Max Kilman is arguably the standout candidate, his alleged £40 million price tag could mean that the Hammers look elsewhere.

If this is the case, there’s a real possibility they could approach Hull to strike a deal for Jacob Greaves. Despite only being 23-years-old, Greaves has been a mainstay in the Hull side for 4 years now and his impressive performances have attracted the attention of Premier League clubs.

The tiger’s owner Acun Ilicali is understandably desperate to keep hold of Greaves, but he admits he will not stand in their way if they do ask to leave. “The only reason [I will let them leave is if] they will come to me and say that they want to go” he stated. “Again, about these boys [Greaves and Philogene] if they feel like they’re going to play and they’re going to be successful for me, their future is more important always above my benefits.”

“Greaves wants to play in the Premier League. He’s such a nice boy, he just said to me [his wish to play in the Premier League]. I love him as a character. He’s a real captain. I address him from here. Greaves, we need you. You are so good and please be with us, but if his brain and soul are completely with another club, we will not stop him.”

It’s clear to see how important he is to Hull City, but they wouldn’t be so keen to keep him if he didn’t have bags of quality. While you can never be certain, he looks ready to take that step up to the top flight and he could really add some leadership as well as calmness into the Hammers’ backline.
