It was a disappointing Sunday as West Ham fell 2-1 to Arsenal at London Stadium with once again questionable officiating undoing a spirited display from our Hammers.

Arsenals second and the eventual winner came from a challenge by Rob Holding with the ball appearing to hit the defenders arm.

Moyes questioned the decision and said that it did appear to be a handball and couldn’t understand why it wasn’t overruled by VAR.

Then there was a reckless challenge by Aaron Ramsdale on Jarrod Bowen with the forward breaking through on goal, yet was bizarrely given in Arsenals favour for a dive.

Despite the frustration of the result and decision making, David Moyes acknowledged that our attention now needs to turn back to our Europa League semi final, with the second leg on Thursday in Frankfurt.

“We have to take that we were much better on the ball today,” said the Irons manager.

“We made a few changes and maybe a few people gave us different sorts of skillsets, but the one we lost was that we took the height out of the team today and we ended up losing to set pieces.

“That’s what happens is that when you put some of the bigger players in, you’re more robust and it helps you at set pieces, but the minute we take them out we become vulnerable and that was noticeable today.

“We’ll get ready for Thursday but we’re not ready for it today.

“The only way we could get in Europe today was to qualify through our league position and that’s why today was so important.

“Of course we’ve got another chance to do it a different way and we’re going to try and do that as well, but the only thing in my head at the moment is this game and how we try to get rid of it and get ready for Thursday.”
