West Ham continued our unbeaten pre-season run so far with a 2-2 draw against Dagenham & Redbridge, with ExWHUEmployee giving his view.

It was a match that gave the first showing of our new all-white away kit for the new season, with a very positive response to the design from a vast portion of the fan base.

Our Hammers took an early lead, with just 10 minutes on the clock a weaving run from Said Benrahma saw the Algerian square the ball to Max Cornet, who slotted home with a sublime strike.

Dagenham & Redbridge drew level on the half-hour mark, after some pretty shocking play from Tomas Soucek and Alphonse Areola combined. Firstly Soucek was easily muscled off the ball on receipt from a throw in, and then Areola bizarrely let a Effiong long strike fly past him with seemingly little effort to keep it out.

After half time though West Ham were back in front, when on 52 minutes Mubuma again finding the net this pre-season when Cornet battled well for possession to then find the 18 year-old, who slotted the ball in the bottom corner.

The game though ended all-square after Luizão fouled Ibie in the box, and the forward picked himself up to make it finish 2-2, which overall will be seen as a positive run out for a young Hammers side.

ExWHUEmployee, who like many isn’t overly concerned when it comes to pre-season results, gave his insight into the role change of Max Cornet which could be a preview of things to come this coming season.

“To be honest I don’t pay too much attention to preseason games and again it was a much alternated team.,” stated our club insider after the match. “One thing to note was the performance of Max Cornet playing in the forward role where we reported Moyes was going to try him, whilst only a friendly, a goal and assist shows their is potential for him in that role.”
