ExWHUEmployee has provided some much needed clarification on West Ham’s reported interest in Santiago Gimenez.

When our man in the know, ExWHUemployee, exclusively revealed that West Ham were eyeing up a move for Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez, fans were jubilant at the prospect of signing such a talented player. The Mexican has scored 18 goals in just 16 Eredivisie games this campaign, already improving on his respectable 17 goal involvements last season.

A couple of months later, Ex announced that Edson Alvarez was “pushing for his team mate to come.” Now, reports have started to emerge stating that the Hammers could sign the forward for just £30 million. So, as always, the insider has provided The West Ham Way Patreon with the truth behind these rumours and, unfortunately, fans should not get their hopes up.

“Today we have been linked with Santiago Gimenez of Feyenoord,” he confirmed. “The reported valuation is £30m. Sadly, this is way below what his club value him at and not what we would expect to pay for a player who has numerous big clubs interested in him.”

“Sadly, this looks like it would be a summer deal if it were to happen.”

As much as this is disappointing news, this should not really come as much of a surprise. The Dutch side have some massive clubs eyeing up a move for the 22 year old, such as Real Madrid, Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund. Additionally, the likes of Tottenham and Arsenal also are heavily linked with a move for him.

Ultimately, even in the Summer, it will be extremely difficult for our Irons to pull a move of such magnitude off – but never say never. Signing the likes of Lucas Paqueta and Mohammed Kudus should give the club confidence that there is a chance they can attract the Mexico international. Either way, whoever ends up signing him, it will certainly cost them more than £30 million.
