West Ham have signed Kalvin Phillips on loan, however there is uncertainty surrounding an option-to-buy clause, its been reported by ExWHUEmployee.

At this stage its understood that there is no official confirmation of the option, with Ex advising that discussions surrounding the clause had proved difficult during the negotiations for the player.

“When we were trying to get clarity of the situation we were told that it had proven to be a real sticky point in negotiations,” reported our club insider. The previously agreed release clause which was thought to be at around £40m had already been described by West Ham as something that they probably wouldn’t be able to afford anyway, as part of the overall package with wages and signing on fee etc.”

At this stage, if the clause is deemed to be absent from the agreeement, then its understood that negotiations over a potential permanent transfer will commence fresh in the summer between both clubs, should West Ham want to retain the player.

“We will look to get further information on this as the day goes on and we have the transfer show with Dharmesh Sheth today so we will see what he has heard too,” added Ex on The West Ham Way Patreon.

There is still confusion at this stage surrounding the clause with some reporting that it is included. We will advise when the situation becomes clearer.

Our club insider will be keeping fans up to date on the situation as it develops, along with all other club matters including further potential transfers this window.
