There were no signs of West Ham fighting back to pick up a result following last weekend’s 6-0 thumping by Arsenal as the Hammers were beaten 2-0 by Nottingham Forest adding to the increasing pressure on manager David Moyes.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side went into the match having been beaten in six of their last seven home matches, but clearly saw an opportunity to pick up a result against a West Ham side bereft of confidence following the embarrassing 6-0 home defeat against Arsenal.

Striker Taiwo Awoniyi put Forest in front just before halftime, turning past Nayef Aguerd and into space to guide his finish low into the far corner and beyond Alphonse Areola. Michail Antonio made his first start for West Ham since November. However West Ham struggled to create many clear cut opportunities.

Phillips, on loan from Manchester City, who has had a difficult start to life in East London with errors leading to goals in his first two games against Bournemouth and Manchester United, was sent off after two quick yellow cards.

Forest were denied what they felt was a penalty after it appeared Maxwell Cornet had tripped up fullback Neco Williams in the penalty area. Late in added time in the second half, Forest sealed all three points and added to what has been a miserable 2024 for West Ham so far. The ball found Hudson Odoi in the box, who drilled home to score his 3rd goal in as many games, giving Nottingham Forest their first Premier League win of 2024 and moving them up to 15th in the table.

The defeat against Forest makes it eight games now without a win for the Hammers, with 11 goals conceded in the last three Premier League games. ‘Moyes Out’ banners were seen in the away end at the City ground with a large portion of the West Ham fanbase making their feelings loud and clear.

It is evident to see the 60 year old Scot is clearly under a lot of pressure now with players low on confidence and a gloomy atmosphere currently surrounding the club.
