An article from the Guardian earlier this week has suggested that West Ham are under pressure to convince technical director Tim Steidten to stay at the club come the end of this current season.

The same article also reports that a number of Hammers players are understood to be “Unenthused” by manager David Moyes’ cautious style of football.

Tim Steidten joined West Ham as the club’s technical director last summer from Bayer Leverkusen having worked in a similar role at the German club.

When the German arrived at West Ham, the club said in a statement he would be responsible for the “overarching player recruitment strategy and scouting department” and would work closely with David Moyes and sporting director Mark Noble.

Steidten quickly received credit for his role in helping the club secure the signings of Mohammed Kudus, Edson Alvarez, James Ward Prowse and Konstantinos Mavropanos. There are concerns though that Steidten is unhappy in East London.

He has recently been linked with joining Liverpool as a technical director. The Guardian reports that sources believe he is frustrated with how the Hammers operate and feel he has not been given enough power.

However, the report goes on to say the German is believed to be in favour of appointing a new manager and that his thinking could change if he is to play a leading role in the Hammers potential hunt for a new manager.

West Ham’s recent dip in form, with David Moyes’ side now eight games without a win in all competitions, has led to much speculation about Moyes’s future and the managerial position at West Ham United.

The Guardian’s article from Monday also refers to the fact that a number of West Ham players are understood to be unimpressed by David Moyes’ cautious style of football which, if true, would tend to suggest they do not believe in the message being put to them and the way they are being asked to play football.

Moyes is in desperate need of some points in the Hammers next run of games to revive the club’s season, with 13 games left to play in the Premier League and the Europa League round of 16 still to come.

He will need the full backing of his playing staff if West Ham are able to turn around their recent form and what has been a miserable start to 2024 so far.
