West Ham have reportedly entered the race for non-league wonder-kid ahead of the Summer transfer window.

It feels like every time West Ham gets linked with a player Crystal Palace do too. While they are currently in two very different places, they are two clubs who both have huge potential. However, financially they just can not compete with the ‘big 6’ and that is probably why their recruitment is so similar.

According to HITC, their hunt for the bargain has led them all the way to non-league side Dartford. The Kent side have one of the most talked about players in the National League South in Olly Box. The 18 year old midfielder has been on fire since breaking into the first team, scoring 3 goals in his last 2 games.

He is said to have impressed scouts from a number of London clubs aside from the Irons and Eagles, with Millwall, Brentford and Leyton Orient all monitoring his situation.

Obviously going to any of those teams would be a massive leap up from the 6th tier of English football and it is hard to imagine he would go straight into the senior squads. He is a very exciting prospect though and one that could turn out to be great value for money but there is no guarantee he would be able to do it for a club like West Ham.

Unfortunately, there is no way of knowing how good he will turn out to be but without risk there is no reward. Considering the miniscule fee he would cost, it certainly would be a small risk. Even if he does not end up getting a move to East London, he is one to keep an eye on to see how his career develops.
