David Moyes will have less of a say on transfers in a proposed new deal for the manager from the club, it has been reported.

According to West Ham News site Hammers News, any potential new deal for David Moyes, if he is to stay at the club, will see his veto on all transfers removed and his influence when it comes to recruitment diminished.

Damien Charles Lucas, who is a writer for Hammers News reported earlier this week that he reached out to a “top source” inside the club to clarify the intentions of the board when it comes to the future of manager David Moyes.

Lucas reported that he was told by this source: “Yes we fully intend to renew the manager’s contract, subject to terms.” These “terms” are said to revolve around his relationship with technical director Tim Steidten, David Sullivan and his influence on recruitment. Moyes’ current contract specifies that he has the ultimate power of veto on all transfers. The report states that any new contract would see his power of veto removed.

In a recent interview with Sky Sports, Moyes appeared to make clear that he would not be happy staying at the club on such terms and completely handing over control of the club’s transfer business to others. In the interview, Moyes mentioned a number of his successes in the transfer market in his managerial career including bringing Jarrod Bowen to West Ham in 2020.

Moyes told Sky Sports: “I’ve always been involved in recruitment, If you don’t recruit well then you probably won’t be doing your team any good.” These quotes appear to highlight the fact that, if the article from Hammers News is to be believed and a potential new deal for David Moyes would revolve around him no longer having the final say on transfers, even if a new contract is on the table, the 60 year old Scot may walk away from the club and leave West Ham come the end of the season.
