West Ham are said to be favourites to sign relegation doomed star this Summer.

Across the pitch, West Ham lack in depth. In an ideal world, they would make 10+ additions in the Summer transfer window when taking into account players who could leave. Obviously this is unlikely to happen, so the club needs to be extremely smart with those they do bring in.

Given their need to fulfil the homegrown quota, it makes sense for them to bring in experienced Premier League players. Ones that you know exactly what you’re getting with. Ones that may not be the flashiest player on the pitch, but you know you can rely on them when needed.

A perfect example of this would be Josh Brownhil, who Graeme Bailey reports is still wanted by West Ham. While the Burnley midfielder may not be necessarily enjoying his season due to Burnley’s near certain relegation, from a personal point of view he has been enjoying a good campaign. He has 7 goal involvements across all competitions and has been vital for Vincent Kompany. His versatility allows him to play anywhere in midfield but is at his best in a box-to-box role.

Admittedly, it is hard to imagine him being signed as more than a squad player, but he would be a brilliant addition in that role.

Unfortunately, it isn’t just the Hammers who are interested in acquiring his services with both Crystal Palace and Brentford also weighing up a move. What could be a massive factor in bringing him to the London Stadium is if the Hammers can get European football. Both Palace and Brentford would be able to offer him more first team football, but neither of them have the lure of those special European nights.

Brownhill’s contract expires at the end of the season, making a deal all the more enticing. It’s just a matter of whether Steidten can convince him to be a rotation player.
