West Ham defender Angelo Ogbonna has signed a contract extension at the club, with ExWHUEmployee pleased the Italian is staying put for another campaign.

Ogbonna’s decision to sign a new contract at the club is a significant one, with the Italian one of the last remaining few from the Upton Park era still playing for West Ham.

The defender has demonstrated his exceptional skills, leadership qualities, and the positive influence he has on the team still, despite now being 35 years old, proving his importance still to David Moyes’ side.

His ability to read the game, make crucial interceptions, and win aerial duels has made him a formidable force in the Premier League and a vital player at the club since his arrival back in 2015.

“I can never really put into words what West Ham means to me,” the defender told the clubs Official Website.

“This is the Club where I grew up and became a man. This is the Club where I’ve seen my children growing up. This is the Club which saw me leave my home country for the first time and experience living away from Italy, being here with my wife, and everyone welcomed us to east London with open arms.

“That is why, whenever I talk about this Club, I feel so emotional.”

The West Ham Way Podcast co-host and club insider ExWHUEmployee, shared his thoughts on the new deal for Ogbonna, stating that the Italian still has a lot to offer the club.

“I am really pleased that he has another year,” stated Ex. “Of course he is approaching the end of his career, but as he showed last season he is more than able to step in to cover when needed.

“He is the last of a dying breed that played for us at Upton Park who are still at the club, with only Ogbonna, Cresswell and Antonio left now that Lanzini has sadly departed.”
