West Ham goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski has spoken about the Hammers trip to Germany this week and how his teammates need to believe they can end Bayer Leverkusen’s incredible unbeaten run.

David Moyes’ side was victorious at the weekend thanks to a 2-1 win away at Wolves. Thursday’s Europa League Quarter Final opponents, Bayer Leverkusen, also picked up three points at the weekend as they won 1-0 against Union Berlin. Xabi Alonso’s side is now 16 points clear at the top of the Bundesliga and have gone an astonishing 41 games unbeaten so far this season.

The Hammers have enjoyed great success in European competition over the last few seasons, that being said, they will certainly have their work cut out if they are to get past Leverkusen and progress to the Europa League semi finals.

West Ham actually played Xabi Alonso’s side in pre season and were thumped 4-0, however despite the result, as reported by the Daily Mail, Hammers keeper Lukasz Fabianski believes the fact he and his teammates have experienced playing against the German side will allow them to be well prepared for the two legs of the Europa League quarter finals: “That was a good experience because we now know what to expect. We experienced the Leverkusen conditions, the stadium, the pitch, the atmosphere, and the fans. That always helps you prepare for the next time.”

Xabi Alonso’s side is just one win away from winning their first Bundesliga title and the club’s first trophy in over 30 years. West Ham go into Thursday’s first leg as heavy underdogs, however despite this, Polish shot stopper Fabianski believes the Hammers have every reason to believe they can reach a third successive European semi final: “We have to believe, We know it’s a huge challenge in front of us, but the games in Europe are always very special.”

Fabianski went on to add: “Every game is different, every European team is different from our experience over the last three years. Hopefully it will be a good night for us.”
