West Ham will apparently be looking to cut their losses on £30 million flop.

Sometimes you get players who clearly have the quality to be brilliant but, for one reason or another, just are not able to play at the level required consistently enough. West Ham have had many over the years, but arguably none have been more frustrating than Nayef Aguerd.

Every now and then, the Moroccan will have a game where he is like a brick wall. Unfortunately, the majority of the time this is not the case. He constantly has a mistake in him and, as a result, can be a liability to have in the defence. Even then, you can see there is a quality player in there, he just has not been able to show it in claret and blue.

In recent months, Aguerd has been pushed out of the starting XI by Konstantinos Mavropanos. Much like his teammate, the Greek defender made a lot of costly mistakes at the beginning of his Premier League career but he actually has been able to cut these out. In fact, Mavropanos has become one of the first names on the team sheet; he’s been absolutely phenomenal.

Understandably, according to Jacob Steinberg, West Ham will look to sell Aguerd just 2 years after he joined. It was believed that they would be willing to listen to offers in January if they matched the price they paid for him but it now seems unlikely they will recover the full amount.

As it stands, the Hammers could already do with signing another centre-back, but bringing in a top quality one would be an absolute must if Aguerd was to go.
